CMO’s report on Lt.Commander Niamh Danann

Status:
Currently admitted to sickbay for withdrawal from Kette's compound. I am looking into developing a medication that will help lessen her symptoms, in the form of an opiate type withdrawal treatment.

Overview:
Commander Danann ‘s recovery from Kette’s influence remains slow going. The serum that Kette injected into her body works as a powerful opiate, causing addiction with just one initial contact. The patient then craves contact with the Vendorian as often as possible. Since she cannot get a new dosage of the original serum due to the lack of Kette's presence, she is going into withdrawal.

Symptoms:
Physical: Dizziness, irritation at sting site, cravings (for the compound), nerve pain, sensitive to pressure on skin, muscle cramps, headaches, nausea, dehydration, tremors, muscle weakness, insomnia. All consistent with typical opiate-type drug withdrawal.

Mental: Anxiety, Depression, Irritability, Delusional at times. Prone to outbursts.

Treatment:
Currently treating symptoms as they come up, and recommend ongoing followup for the long term. Would recommend light duty only for the first few weeks after discharge until she is able to handle full duty. Will need bi-weekly or weekly followup appointments; depending on how recovery is progressing, may taper off to once a month or less. May need constant medical monitoring for the first few days to a week after discharge. Also currently researching treatment similar to medications used to treat opiate withdrawal. May also need counseling.

Conclusion:
She will probably crave the Vendorian’s compound for the rest of her life, but symptoms may lessen over time; and in time she may learn to control the cravings and the emotional and physical havoc that it causes. With the addition of a successful withdrawal treatment, a good prognosis is possible.

That was really great, Babs! I love little things like this, especially as a Doctor - I remember one mission where I basically went all CSI with an autopsy report, really fantastic fun. :)

Detangling the Knot

Postby Babette C » Mon Jun 06, 2016 5:41 pm

11605.30 Detangling the Knot

Isabelle had spent the last hour or so working.. no, hiding.. in the lab. She was not in the mood to talk to Niamh again until some kind of treatment for her was underway. Every time she'd tried to do speak with her, she was actively ignored, resented, sometimes cursed at, or otherwise treated with disrespect. And her little tantrums related to food were just that. Tantrums. She wasn't starving. It had only been few hours at best since she was admitted to sickbay the second time. If she continued her food strike for more than a couple of days though, she'd have to be put on yet another IV drip, and Isabelle didn't want to try that just yet unless she really had to. So she'd left the nurses and Dr. Sobak to deal with her recalcitrant patient.

In the meantime, she was attempting to pinpoint exactly which agent in the Vendorian's serum was causing the addiction. It was like untangling a room full of thread. Get one piece untangled, only to find another set of knots.. and another piece that was wrapped around yet another tangle. So far she wasn't able to single out any one molecule or set of molecules that was causing it.. it all seemed to be interconnected.

And then she stopped, realising she was completely on the wrong track.

Even if she did find a way to replicate the correct molecule, the treatment itself could continue to keep Niamh addicted in the long run. Even in it's weakened form, stepped down over time, the addictive substance was just too strong. She put down the sample, turning off the viewer for the time being. What Danann really needed was someone to be there for her, to help her through the withdrawal. The tantrums, bad mood and the worst of the symptoms would fade over time. In the end, Danann just needed to learn how to face what had happened to her. And through that, she would ultimately find healing...

Really nice log, Babs! I'm liking this little bit of drama down in Sickbay, it's a good diversion.

Thanks guys! :V
Speaking of drama, let's see what happens when Danann finds that the file she stole from sickbay is encrypted and dna locked.. as are all of the files related to Kette. Fun times...
